The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

June 16, 2009

Title: The good, the bad and the ugly
Tagline: Nothing is as it seems
One line synopsis: A quick and interesting journey of my life and who i am

Treatment: The song “Come to daddy by the Aphex twins” begins. I am standing there looking at the camera. As the lyrics of the song begin i start to talk along with it. Images of my evil side flash. I continue to talk along with the lyrics of the song. Side shot of me talking, more quick flashes of me transforming into a devil. The devil is standing there staring at the camera. Back to me talking along with the song, half way through the words it flashes back to me as a devil singing along with the lyrics, then back to my normal self. More quick flashes of me as a devil yelling and me as skeleton yelling. Now its me standing there as a skeleton staring at the camera talking along with the lyrics, the clips then begins to distort as the face flashes back and forth. A quick flash of the skeletons teeth appears then it cuts to a shot of me loading a gun then firing it.
We follow he bullet as it flies past images of the things i look up to, like, family, friends etc. Cuts to different people repeating the same words as the song. Quick flashes of a man i a mask. Cuts back to other people repeating the words of the song. We continue following the bullet and see more images fly past it. Cut back to me standing, again quick flashes of another demon appear as i repeat the lyrics of the song. Cuts to five more people repeating the lyrics of the song. Again it flashes to a man in a balaclava yelling. Cuts back to the bullet. The bullet finally hits a wall. Cuts back to me standing, staring at the camera. Cuts to a close up of my face, still staring. Cuts to a close up of my eyes, focused. We see my back, the camera pans up from my back to reveal my name made out the bullet holes in the wall.

The Spirit Review

After directing Sin City and writing the graphic novel 300, Frank Miller has made quiet a name for himself, one would only hope that if another movie came out in his name, it would be as action packed and intriguing as the last, but how wrong we were.

As Millers first time out as a solo director, it is clearly shown that Miller has little to do with the physical directing of Sin City. Although visually pleasing, we can’t help but feel let down by the cinematography and graphics which were almost identical to Sin City.

The Spirit didn’t have any real depth to it, there were no real messages being brought through to the audience most of all no real character development. As much as we wanted to find meaning to each scene, we couldn’t. In an attempt to make it seem as there was some depth and story to these characters, Miller only gave us quick flash backs of The Spirits past, which gave no help to the character development. The story itself was not engaging and was poorly written. The only real emotion was that of Sarah Paulson (nurse). Sand Saref seemed like a character that was only brought in for the sake of having a twist, which was foreseeable.

The things that really made me hate this movie were the lame one liners by both The Octopus and the spirit and the stereotypical ‘bad guys’ who for some reason decided to discuss their ‘master plan’ rather than actually killing The Spirit. A major let down was that no one could really relate to these, demented characters. All characters are going though emotional, or more like, unemotional journeys no one can relate to.

My opinion, dont watch this, and if you really must, wait for the DVD.
